Evaluation Question 6

Evaluation Question 6: Technologies

What have you learnt about the technologies from constructing this product?

  • A lot more about blogger primarily the main source for my course work
  • Final Cut Pro X which i relied heavily on to edit my work
  • Garage Band for creating the music for my Ident
  • LiveType was used to create my Ident
  • Youtube
  • Digital camera recorders
  • Sony Vegas

All of the above were the technologies i learnt about whilst constructing  my media product as a whole. These forms of technology i had never used before and would probably never have used. In addition to this, each one used never seemed to difficult. There is a lot of helpful information online which meant struggling whilst using a certain technology was never a problem.

Blogger:

When i first started AS Media blogger was new to me i had never blogged before in my life. But as soon as i started to use it it became simple and easy to use and i had no difficulties what so ever.

Blogger was the device we used to post all of our different blogs from the very start of the year to the end, updating them continuously. The blog would be where we put all of our research and planning up to our final product, all of our evaluations and our final cut. Therefore, everything we researched any activities we carried out ect. throughout the year would be put onto our blogger. We built up a vast amount of blogs over the course of the year and i found it really useful to look back at them when carrying out my evaluation questions.

Not just my own blog was useful our media teacher provided us with three key blogs that would help us throughout the course of the year, these are listed below.

Blogger was arguably our most important use of technology that we used, in the sense that it was used so frequently to put up vital information and receive vital information also.

Final Cut Pro X and Sony Vegas:

We used final cut pro to edit all of our footage including vodcasts our micro drama and any other videos we had made. We initially use Final Cut Pro from the very start of the year. We also used it partly when making our idents and it’s a quick and successful way of editing footage and putting music together. It is very easy to use and has lots of options, effects and useful transitions to improve any footage for example the zoom in tool allowing you to create another shot with out having to re-shoot anything, this proved to be very handy when we had little time.

Sony Vegas is very similar to existing programmes like Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Pro X. We found that it was alot more complex and offered a wider range of tools, which were easier and simpler to use. With Sony Vegas we put together our trailer, final film and also a number of different podcasts. Personally it offers everything that Final Cut Pro offers. However, for us to edit our final project it was much more of a convenience to us as we were able to edit on the move and we weren't restricted to a certain time to when we could edit our film.

YouTube:

I had used YouTube previously before but i had never uploaded any videos to it at all. We used it frequently to look at so many different clips whether they were past course work, trailers, film clips ect. YouTube is very useful and helped a lot with research and planning especially getting screenshots and examples from slasher films where we got our key conventions from. It makes it a lot easier to embed videos and from YouTube it becomes easy to share videos to lots of different social networking sites, this is what we did with our final film as it was a vital device for feedback.

Live Type:

LiveType is the software i used to create my ident. I found it quite hard to understand at first, but it became easier when i was shown how to use it effectively. However, I couldn't achieve all the effects I wanted on my ident so i had to export it and reimport it into final cut pro to improve it slightly.

I found blogger and Youtube the tools that were of the most use to me because i used them so frequently for my research and planning but alss for our feedback which was probably the most important factor. I was surprised by how well i could use these different technologies but this was probably down to the fact that they are all so easy to use when you know how. The only limitations we had with technology was using equipment that we wouldn't have been able to fund. Nevertheless our Final film came out the way we wanted it to so i can't say that i would have liked to use any more technologies other than the ones i had used.

I have learned so many things through the course of the year about technologies. I had never used a Camera Recorder before and any other the other technologies such as LiveType, Final Cut Pro X, Garage Band ect. I can do a lot more now than i previously could.
